Outreach
Outreach support to other schools, Pre-school settings and families is well established and children with a hearing impairment who attend their local mainstream school benefit from expert advice from Lowerhouses CE Primary Additionally Resourced Provision Team. The support is dependent on the level of need and can include:
- Support and advice for staff in schools and Pre-school settings on strategies to ensure the pupil can learn
- Support families of newborn and pre-school children within their home
- Support for year 6 puplis on transition to High School
- Provide deaf awareness training to staff and peers, as well as more specific training on meeting the pupil’s needs
- Provide Makaton training to staff and parents to support children's language development
- Support the effective use and maintenance of hearing technologies
- Undertake specialist assessments to identify the pupil’s needs in order to inform teaching and learning strategies and targets
- Recommend improvements to the hearing environment and access to learning activities for all pupils
- Advice on the outcomes that may reasonably be expected for deaf pupils when support is sustained and developed effectively over time
- Provide advice and support for all areas of the pupil’s development
- Support and advise parents
- Help coordinate liaison with other agencies involved with the pupil
- Advice on adjustments needed for any examinations or tests.
- Educational audiologist attends paediatric Health Authority Clinics for under 5’s or those with complex needs
